05/05/14 Winner of the WPD Contest Announced

This year at the Juke Joint Festival in Clarksdale, Jeff Jensen & Mick Kolassa were watching the people dancing and especially the white people and they started laughing.

See, on Mick's new album Michissippi Mick, there is a song called WPD (White People Dancing), so they decided a contest was in order.

Videos were requested and people sent in a ton, but one stood out over the others...

John 'blueshammer' Hammer submitted a video of Spike Stephen's dancing at the Bowlful of Blues put on by South Skunk Blues in Newton, IA 2013.

Mick came on the show to announce the winner...

07/22/13 WORLD PREMIER - Jeff Jensen "Road Worn & Ragged"

Jeff Jensen had a great thing going out in California with his band, Jeff Jensen Band; even coming to Memphis for the IBC three times and helping to start the Santa Clarita Blues Society.

A little over 2 years ago he moved to Memphis and became a member of the Brandon Santini Band.

Now, he is ready to release his new album Road Worn & Ragged and we have the World Premier!

Jeff and I explored the album, the song selections, his 'ripping the bandage off' during the songwriting sessions for the album We also listened to five tunes from the album...go on, check it out, because the album is not available until August 6th!

2012 Blues Music Awards

The Blues Foundation did one hell of a job last Thursday presenting the Blues Music awards.

Congrats to all involved including the volunteers who work so dang hard.

Over the three days, I was involved in some great times.

Wednesday evening at Rum Boogie Cafe, The Memphis Blues Society held the Rattlebone Jones All-Star Jam to raise money in conjunction with RAISE THE ROOF! to build the Blues Hall of Fame in Memphis at the home of the Blues Foundation.

We were able to raise over $1,300.00 and all involved should be congratulated.

Vincent hayes, Dave Keller and Vince Johnson joined the band to lend a hand during the Jam.

Then Davina & the Vagabonds put on a rousing set of music as always.

Finally Nick Moss and his band took the stage to play and afterward Nick ran a jam that lasted until the wee hours.

Then Friday afternoon I got to see Peter Parcek play some at the Rum Boogie with Greg Gumbel playing bass guitar for him, before heading to the Tap Room for the inaugural Beale Street mess Around, which I had been asked to MC.

JT Lauritsen, Brandon Santini and Victor Wainwright led a solid band that included Jeff jensen and Greg Gumbel on guitars, Leo Goff and Dave "Groove" Parker on bass and Jumpin' James Cummingham and John Grimsby on drums.

There was also some great vocals from Redd Velvet and Shari Puorto.

From a small California farming community came Jeff Jensen with a guitar in his hand.

Starting his own band in 2004, the band clicked and appeared at the International Blues Challenge in 2005, 2006 and 2007, playing their west coast swing blues.
