09/15/14 Purple Songs Can Fly Sat On The Couch

Anita Kruse, Founder & Executive Director of Purple Songs Can Fly made a proposal to Carol Herron, the Director of the Arts in Medicine Program, in December of 2004, and they began the process of creating a unique experience for the children being treated at Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Centers and their siblings.

Purple Songs Can Fly was founded, and I began working with the first child on March 21, 2006. The children’s songs are copied on purple CDs and flown by participating passengers, pilots and astronauts to places on earth and into space.

I was joined by Anita and Carol along with Christian Spear, a cancer survivor and now a Fellow at Purple Songs Can Fly and Stephen Makia, a cancer survivor and one of the first to record a song for PSCF.

Tas Cru also called in to add his impressions of the organization and his time there in July.

My Week As A Tortured Soul Day 8 - Houston Daytime

We woke and drove into the city to the Texas Children's Cancer & Hematology Center to do a show for the patients, their families and staff...whoever was in the waiting area of the Clinical Care Center.

All I can say is my eyes were most most of the time - with joy - watching the kids and adults taking some time away from their issues to enjoy.

I was sitting next to a small boy (maybe 2-3) whose sibling was the patient.  And I was clapping to the music and looked over and this little by was smiling and began to clap... MY HEART MELTED!
